Blue Canyon Country Club - Phuket Golf Courses
This superb golf resort is undoubtedly Thailands best-known
golf resort and is justly ranked as one of the best in Asia. Featuring
two great championship courses, Blue Canyon boasts a host of other
features including the luxurious Golfers Lodge, the Golf Academy,
and numerous other facilities for guests including floodlit tennis
courts, two swimming pools, casual but elegant restaurants, meeting
rooms and a professional golf shop. The spacious locker room facilities
include 2 Jacuzzis, cold plunge, steam room and sauna. A traditional
Thai Massage service is also available.
Blue Canyon leapt to fame when the Canyon Course was selected for
the venue of the 1994 Johnnie Walker Classic. Greg Norman holed
his final putt to win the Championship. The course also hosted the
1998 Johnnie Walker Classic which saw Tiger Woods win in another
exciting finish. Blue Canyon is the only course ever to have been
chosen twice to host the Johnnie Walker Classic which is an endorsement
in itself. In 1996, the Honda Invitational was also played on this
superb course. As a further endorsement of this great course, it
has been named Asian & Pacific Golf Course of the Year,
1999 at the London-based Hertz International Golf Travel Awards.
Located just 5 minutes from the airport, the Canyon Course, which
was designed by Yoshikazu Kato of Golf Co, Japan, features numerous
natural hazards, acres of lakes accentuated by towering trees, multiple
tees, narrow landing areas, rolling fairways and well guarded, slick
Bermuda Tiftdwarf greens. A par 72 layout, the course plays from
5,974 to 7,119 yards. All golfers will be challenged and each hole
will be remembered on this stunningly beautiful course.
The eagerly awaited Yoshikazu Kato designed Lakes Course at Blue
Canyon opened to members and visitors on 1st March 1999. Players
have found that this latest masterpiece in golf course design is
a formidable test of golfing skills and a worthy companion for the
world renowned Canyon Course.
The 7,129 yard par 72 course has been designed to cater for a broad
range of golfers with Silver Tees being added between the Red and
White Tees. With Black and Blue Tees, a total of five sets of tees
offer a complete golfing experience for all standards of golfers.
When designing the course, Yoshikazu Kato kept the land flow relatively
unchanged. The front 9 runs through a landscape of lakes and natural
canyons while the back 9 weaves its way around scenic lakes and
soft, whispering woodlands of rubber trees. Water comes into play
on 17 of the 18 holes. To get to the mildly undulating greens, one
must avoid the courses 34 bunkers which cover key landing
areas and green surrounds.
